Guides Needed – Training Provided

The Lansing Historical Society & Museum invites individuals with an interest in local history to join our team as Tour Guides or Assistant Tour Guides at the historic Kansas State Penitentiary. Tours are held Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Each tour typically lasts 2½ hours, and guides are paid for the full tour time — $20 per hour for Guides and $15 per hour for Assistant Guides. Participants may choose which tours they wish to work and may commit to as few as one tour per month or as many as their schedule allows. No prior experience is necessary. Guides and Assistant Guides receive hands-on, on-the-job training while working alongside experienced guides, making this a great opportunity for those who enjoy storytelling, meeting people, and helping preserve and share our community’s history.

Guiding at the historic Kansas State Penitentiary is more than a job — it’s a chance to share local history, meet people from all over the world, and help preserve an important Kansas landmark. Whether you enjoy storytelling, learning something new, or simply being part of a dedicated team, this is a rewarding way to stay involved in your community while working on a schedule that fits your life.
